How midstaters fared in major-college football this weekend

Here's how central Pennsylvania student-athletes made out around the country this weekend in major-college football.

FBS

Jawon Chisholm (Harrisburg), Akron RB: Chisholm carried 21 times for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Zips' 56-49 loss to Miami (Ohio). He also caught 4 passes for 54 yards. CB Anthony Holmes (Harrisburg) led the Zips defensively with six solo tackles, an assist and a pass breakup.

Tom Houser (Lebanon), Army OL: Houser saw action in the Cadets' 23-3 home victory over Stony Brook.

Matt Johnson (Bishop McDevitt), Bowling Green QB: Johnson threw his first career college touchdown pass in a 48-8 win over Rhode Island, hitting Herve Coby from 19 yards out. He completed 4 of 7 passes for 51 yards and carried once for 5 yards.

Jameel Poteat (Bishop McDevitt), Cincinnati RB: Poteat appeared in the Bearcats' 27-24 win over Virginia Tech, but recorded no stats.

Chad Christen (Red Land), Connecticut PK: Christen converted his only field goal, a 29-yarder, and was 3-for-3 in extra points as UConn stopped Buffalo 24-17. Christen averaged 60.2 yards on his kickoffs, getting touchbacks on two out of five. Tyler Bullock (Mechanicsburg) made his first career start at center for the Huskies.

Brendon Levengood (Cedar Crest), Massachusetts PK: Levengood was 4-for-4 on extra points in a 37-34 loss to Ohio, although Blake Lucas took over the UMass field-goal duties. Levengood continued to handle the kickoff chores, averaging 63.7 yards on seven boots, including one touchback.

Matt Lehman (Newport), Penn State TE: The walk-on junior had the best day of his short career in the 35-7 victory over Illinois, grabbing 5 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. RB Derek Day (Central Dauphin) had 4 carries for 14 yards. DL Jordan Hill (Steel-High) had a tackle and two assists. Evan Lewis (Gettysburg) returned a punt 26 yards. Also seeing the field were WRs Christian Kuntz (Trinity) and TEs Garry Gilliam (Milton Hershey) and Brian Irvin (Gettysburg).

Cody Webster (CD East), Purdue P: Webster averaged 40.3 yards on three punts in the Boilermakers' 51-41 victory over visiting Marshall.

Nick Kindler (Trinity), West Virginia OL: Kindler saw action in WVU's 70-63 victory over Baylor, the Mountaineers' Big 12 debut.

FCS

Jeremiah Young (Steel-High), Bucknell RB: Young scored the Bison's lone touchdown in a 15-10 loss to Cornell. He had 38 yards on 8 carries and caught a pass for 7 yards. FB Travis Friend (Cumberland Valley) caught a 5-yard pass. TE Josh Lebo (Cedar Cliff) caught 2 passes for 14 yards. LBs Jeff Goyette (Trinity) and Matt Johnson (Steel-High) each had an assist, while DE Sean Sellers (Cedar Crest) had two tackles and an assist. TE Josh Lebo (Cedar Cliff) saw action, but had no stats.

Ben Dupree (Susquehanna Twp.), The Citadel QB: Dupree amassed 26 yards on 14 carries in the Bulldogs' 28-10 loss to Chattanooga. He was 2-for-3 passing for 32 yards.

Jake Campbell (Hershey), Delaware DB: Campbell had a tackle in the Blue Hens' 34-14 loss to New Hampshire. Logan Shultz (Gettysburg) was the starting left defensive tackle, but had no stats.

Jack Dougherty (Steel-High), Hampton DE: Dougherty started at defensive end for Hampton in its 38-26 loss to Bethune-Cookman, but had no stats.

Pete Anastasio (Camp Hill), Holy Cross LB, and Ted Deily (Bishop McDevitt), Holy Cross TE: Both Anastasio and Deily played in Holy Cross' 52-3 loss to Harvard, but accumulated no stats.

Colton Kirkpatrick (Cumberland Valley), Lafayette LB: Kirkpatrick rang up two solo tackles, two assists and intercepted a pass, returning it 5 yards in the Leopards' 31-28 loss to Robert Morris.

Ryan Kuntz (Bishop McDevitt), Lehigh DL:
Kuntz saw action, but had no stats in Lehigh's 34-31 victory over Fordham.

Arron Achey (Elco), Maine LB: Achey had an assist as the Black Bears lost 35-14 to Villanova.

Chris Houston (Bishop McDevitt), New Hampshire CB: Houston had three tackles and an assist as UNH defeated Delaware 34-14.

Detwan Robinson (Red Land), North Carolina Central TE: Robinson had no catches as NCCU's starting tight end, but he did have a tackle on a punt return in a 54-17 loss to Duke.

Adam Keller (Red Land), North Dakota State PK: Keller had a big night in the Bison's 33-21 win at Northern Iowa, hitting 4 of 5 field goals. He connected from 30, 28, a career-long 43 and 28 yards for NDSU, still ranked first nationally in the FCS. He was also 3-for-3 on extra points and averaged 63.6 yards on eight kickoffs.

Ekpen Iduoze (Susquehanna Twp.), Rhode Island DT: Iduoze had an assist in URI's 48-8 loss to Bowling Green.

Mike Poplaski (Mechanicsburg), Richmond OL: Poplaski saw action in the Spiders' 45-37 loss to Old Dominion.

Lloyd Hill (Steel-High), Saint Francis OL: Hill was the Red Flash's starting right guard in its 24-21 loss to Duquesne. OL Trent Baker (Palmyra) also saw action for Saint Francis.

Bryton Barr (Mechanicsburg), Towson LB: The Tigers were competitive in a 38-22 loss at third-ranked LSU, and Barr was as busy as anyone. Playing before a crowd of 92,154 in Baton Rouge, La., the true freshman contributed three tackles and three assists, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass.
