Tim Tebow at an anti-gay church in Dallas?

Mr. Tebow has a speaking engagement on April 28 at First Baptist Dallas, according to the church?s website and that has led to questions from NBC Sports blogger Rick Chandler about the controversial pastor of the church, Robert Jeffress.

An NBC Sports post from Off the Bench claims the pastor is an extremist and also anti-gay and cites examples of his statements to back that up.

"On the eve of the presidential election in November 2012, Jeffress warned his Dallas congregation that President Barack Obama?s re-election would ?lead to the rise of the Antichrist,? according to The Christian Post.

Jeffress also gained notoriety for his statements about the gay community. According to ThinkProgress, during the same speech where he endorsed Rick Perry in 2011, Jeffress told a crowd at the high-profile Values Voters Summit that gays should not be allowed in the military because ?Seventy percent of the gay population? has AIDS."

OutSpots adds that the Megachurch pastor reserves some of his most stringent rhetoric for gays and lesbians.

"He has described gays and lesbians as ?perverse,? ?miserable? and ?abnormal? people who engage in an ?unnatural? and ?filthy practice? that will lead to the ?implosion of our country.?

Jeffress argues that the gay community employs Chinese ?brainwashing techniques? in order to have homosexuality 'crammed down our throats.'"

Meanwhile Gallup has some interesting numbers on the gay population in the US.

The percentage of U.S. adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) ranges from 1.7% in North Dakota to 5.1% in Hawaii to a whopping 10% in the District of Columbia, according to Gallup surveys conducted from June-December 2012.

The nationwide average of this who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is now at 3.5%.
